STERLING HEIGHTS, MI – It was a day that many of the regional soccer fans have been waiting day for. Finally, the two titan teams met for the first time this season at Wanda Park. White Eagle SC squared off against San Marino in a Premier league game. Whenever those two teams meet there are plenty of hard tackles and both team play until the last whistle. This game has a special meaning for both the managers as they both play a huge role in putting their respective teams together.

The game kicked off at 7pm sharp with both teams looking to capitalize early. San Marino started with couple of key players missing, one of them was a former White Eagle, Sam Seppo, who chose to play with San Marino this year. San Marino’s player/manager Nicolino Morana was suspended due to a red card which meant he was not able to play and help his team either. Both teams started the game cautiously trying to get a feel for the opponent and the field. The tempo picked up and the game become more open as time went by.

Most of the attacks to start the game were on the Eagles’ site, however, they were unable to capitalize. Some of it was due to the ineffectiveness of Eagles’ strikers but most were due to an excellent play of San Marion’s goalkeeper, who also plays with Oakland FC of the GLPSL. The teams went back and forth in a very close game. It wasn’t until late in the second half, when a mistake by the Eagles’ defensive formation proved to be costly as Matt Spencer of San Marino took advantage of the mistake and put the ball in the net.

With a great performance and close loss, Eagles are looking forward to bouncing back in their next game on Wednesday July 15. The fans are very optimistic and supportive despite the loss as the performance on the field did not reflect the final score.
